Bobtail in Catahoulas
Our Catahoulas are naturally bob tailed or long tailed, they are not cropped.
One of the parents must be a bobtail as well for any pups to be a bobtail themselves.
Two bobtail dogs will produce both longtail and bobtail pups.
A bobtail can be anything from a very short stub to 3/4" length.
The bobtail gene is NOT recessive.
A Catahoula with a bobtail a is considered a serious fault within the NALC, and permitted, although not preferred with the UKC.
The reason we have chosen to include bobtail Catahoulas in our breeding program is because the numbers of bobtailed Catahoulas has declined greatly since the NALC updated the status of a bobtailed Catahoula from "fault" to "serious fault".
We feel that the naturally bobtailed Catahoula must be preserved.
